The coder oversees processing of office professional charges, including updating of procedure and diagnosis codes in computer files, coordinating reports and maintaining fee ticket files.
Abstracts and assigns ICD-9-CM Codes to all patient records.
Adjust work schedule to accommodate the hours of each practice when providing coding and posting duties at that location.
Demonstrate the ability to multi-task and work in several areas of coding throughout each work day.
Assist in maintaining the master code tables in the billing system.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of experience with accounting coding practices, including one year of medical coding experience.
Previous medical office experience preferred.
Typing 40 wpm.
Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes.
Basic insurance knowledge preferred.
Knowledge of coding policies and procedures and reimbursement practices.
Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to prepare records in accordance with detailed instructions.
Reviews patients' medical records; assigns appropriate codes using International Classification of Disease system; enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings, education, programs, conferences, etc.
