Programmer / Analyst Global Financial Systems

Massive data volume + complex business rules in a highly distributed service-oriented architecture a world-class information collection and delivery challenge. Our challenge is to deliver the software systems which accurately capture, process, and report on the huge volume of financial transactions that are generated each day as millions of customers make purchases, as thousands of suppliers and partners are paid, as inventory moves in and out of warehouses, as commissions are calculated, and as taxes are collected in hundreds of jurisdictions worldwide. Are you interested in solving these high volume challenges while pushing the leading edge of cloud computing in the enterprise? Are you interested in getting an end-to-end business view of Amazon and how the various lines of business and various Amazon systems integrate to serve our customers. Then have we got the opportunity for you! Millions of transactions will actually flow through the code and systems you help develop and maintain on a daily basis!

Amazon's Global Financial Systems team is seeking exemplary programmer analysts with broad technical skills to help us optimize how we synthesize massive amounts of data and complex business rules into mission critical financial information. As a member of this team you will employ object oriented techniques in C++, Java, and Perl, and leverage strong data modeling and RDBMS skills to help us design and deliver Amazon's next generation of financial reporting services. You will research and drive implementations of business rule management, messaging, workflow, and web services technologies. Along the way you'll gain and leverage a unique understanding of how Amazon.com works; from the numerous software systems that comprise the website's back-end, to the details of our business model, and the relationships we're establishing with an ever-growing network of merchants who depend on Amazon.com to run their online stores.

The ideal candidate will draw upon exemplary analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills, deep software development experience, and a passion for creating maintainable, highly reliable, distributed systems which operate 24/7/365. You will work with analytic tools, can write excellent SQL and Unix scripts, can partner with customers to answer key business questions, and you are an advocate for your customers. Successful members of this team collaborate effectively with internal end- users, aggressive cross-functional software development teams, and technical support/sustaining engineering teams to solve problems, implement new financial reporting solutions, and deliver successfully against high operational standards of system availability and reliability. We look for engineers who are excellent communicators, self-motivated, flexible, hard working, and who like to have fun.
