Assistant Commissioner The New Jersey Department of Human Services is seeking a progressive, experienced individual to fill the title of Assistant Commissioner for the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services. This dynamic leadership position oversees daily operations of New Jersey's publicly funded mental health and addiction services system that serves over 325,000 individuals annually. New Jersey is a leader in implementing evidence-based, recovery-oriented mental health and addiction services. The individual will manage a budget of approximately $900 million, and provide operational and policy direction for the division. The State FY'11 budget calls for the merger of the divisions of mental health and addiction services into one division, and the Assistant Commissioner will play a key role in facilitating the process. The Division operates 5 psychiatric hospitals; a closure is proposed for one. The Division also partners with the Department of Corrections to provide treatment to the State's civilly committed sexually violent predator population. This qualified individual will also represent DMHAS in multiple venues, including the Governor's office, Legislature, and with stakeholders. The position reports to the Deputy Commissioner for the New Jersey Department of Human Services.
Job Applicants should possess strong management, budgeting and community relations skills, including knowledge of community-based and institutional systems of care, Medicaid, and best practices as well as strong written and oral communication skills.
The position requires a Bachelor's degree and six (6) years experience as an administrator in a large government or private organization involved in the mental health and/or addiction field. A minimum of a Masters Degree in a human services related field is preferred.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
