Special Information:
The Information Systems Specialist is responsible for taking incoming technical support calls, responding to user requests to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve technical network, hardware and software issues.
Additional duties include backup support to other IT staff with user account maintenance, system documentation, help-desk support functions; and participation in planning of future upgrades and technology enhancements.

Successful applicant(s) will be subject to:

Provides in-house expertise and technical support to end-users on technically related issues
Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems, working with outside vendors/technical support as needed, and documents, tracks and monitors problems to ensure a timely resolution
Provides technical support to the agency in supporting the users, technical equipment and network infrastructure
Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates technology systems and user needs to provide recommendations and solutions to further develop business strategies
Trains staff on the use of the agency’s standard software applications, as needed
Develops and produces accurate and timely routine and special reports, and data retrievals for staff as needed, and is the point person for managing custom reporting requests
Remains informed on software updates, upgrades and additional services
Actively integrates Professional Standards and Service Standards into daily interactions
Other duties as required and assigned/approved by IT Manager

General knowledge of the principles and practices of computer science, equipment associated with networks and personal computers, data management products, network capabilities, computer operating systems, computer equipment, and software.
Highly organized, with superior problem resolution and analytical skills
High level of interpersonal and customer service skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of basic network administration tools such as Active Directory, EDIR, LDAP, DNS, TCP/IP
Knowledge of Open Source OS and desktop software such as Linux and OpenOffice
In-depth understanding of Windows XP, 7, Server 2003/8 & desktop applications such as Microsoft Office

AA or AS with 3 years technical experience, or
BS or BA degree with 1 years technical experience, or
No degree and 5 years of technical support experience
