We are looking for experienced gnu/linux admins, who are as comfortable at a shell as they are in their sweatpants. One successful candidate will join Lucid as the newest addition to our operations team. You'll spend the majority (roughly 60%) of your time maintaining our platform, development environments, and office infrastructure. You'll work with a variety of free and open source software solutions, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, and LDAP databases, glusterFS, Samba, revision control systems, management scripts, issue tracking systems, and all manner of network tools. The remainder of your time will be divided between back-office IT, customer integrations, and coordinating the response to high-level customer support incidents. This is a terrific growth opportunity for the right candidate, who will be exposed to systems of increasing complexity and responsibility.

Required Qualifications
  • minimum of 2 years' full-time experience as a gnu/linux systems admin (Debian/Ubuntu preferred)
  • ability to write automation scripts in at least one shell dialect (bash, csh, zsh . . . ), with basic knowledge of a higher-level scripting language (python, ruby, or perl)
  • basic understanding of gnu/linux operation and internals
  • ability to analyze log files and correlate with system events
  • experience with SQL databases and ability to compose basic queries
  • understanding of version control concepts and applications
  • familiarity with markup and data interchange formats: HTML, XML, JSON, etc
  • ability to learn off-the-shelf free software solutions to common problems
  • experience monitoring systems for uptime and performance
  • ability to write clear documentation and convey complex ideas in English
  • ability to serve in on-call, after-hours support rotation
  • willing and able to provide occasional office IT (Windows, Mac, peripheral) support
  • self-direction, perseverance, and fast learning; calm demeanor and positive attitude

  • The ideal candidate will have:
  • experience with software that we like and/or use: Debian, Ubuntu, KVM, LXC, libvirt, haproxy, corosync, pacemaker, openLDAP, Samba, NFS, glusterFS, BIND, Cassandra, Nagios, MySQL (Percona), PostgreSQL, Apache-2.2, Django, Varnish, Graphite, collectd
  • experience with the languages we use most: python, javascript, flex, bash
  • working knowledge of all layers of the OSI model
  • network engineering expertise
  • experience working with distributed systems and clusters
  • in-depth knowledge of deb packaging and apt distribution
  • experience supporting software developers
  • familiarity with development process and methodology
  • experience working with high-availability systems
  • QA and testing experience
  • experience working in a production datacenter
