GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for the installation, maintenance, monitoring, and vendor management of systems in a client-server environment. Responsible for configuring server operating systems and database environments and replacing hardware based on a predetermined schedule. Assists with the support and maintenance of the Telecommunications applications at UPG, including those in the Call Center. Manages projects including 3rd party custom software development. Ensures system availability, usability, and survivability. Also, manages systems and develops policies and procedures in regards to security, backup schedules, restoration, and general development. Monitors system capacity or sizing for supported applications and plans for future needs. Supports team members and ensures that established deadlines and client needs are met. Keeps management well informed of area activities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions of the Job:
Serves, manages and supports internal and external customers of supported systems.
Performs the installation of new software, upgrades and patches of existing systems.
Understands, supports and serves as a system administrator providing overall maintenance, continuous monitoring and auditing for system efficiencies and response time improvement and quality control. Maintains access methods, access time, security and security documentation.
Assists support staff, and customers with troubleshooting and problem resolution.
Monitors application server operating system environment and tunes hardware and software as appropriate.
Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and corrects a variety of application, interface, database, telephony or hardware issues, and coordinates with internal and external technical support teams whatever actions are necessary to resolve them.
Ensures data and system integrity, defines validation checks, loading and unloading data, backup and recovery procedures, producing documentation as necessary.
Participates as a team member on projects or may lead initiatives where appropriate.
Acts as an "internal" consultant. Assists in the evaluation of new systems, interfaces, or enhancements and the impact of changes on users and workflow as appropriate.
Works with Health System Technology Services and vendors to determine the best plan for application setup, including hardware installs and server replacements; considering space, array and fault-tolerance configurations.
Maintains and enhances database interfaces with internal systems, including import/export utilities of external information, imports into systems, global updates of information, and any other system integration issues as they arise.
With users and team members, certifies test plans are complete and coordinates the testing of modifications to supported applications and systems. Obtains signoff on test plan results and coordinates the implementation of changes.
Documents backup, security, and disaster recovery procedures in order to protect the integrity and security of highly confidential, mission-critical data. Communicates the procedures to team members and management.
Provides training and documentation for users of the applications and systems supported.
Provides on-call technical support as determined by manager. To provide best customer service levels, it may be necessary to work outside normal business hours and to work more than the scheduled number of hours.
Designs and creates complex reports utilizing report generation software in accordance with user needs, and train users in running the reports.
Other projects and tasks as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Bachelor’s degree; Microsoft Certification in SQL Server or Windows Server; or equivalent combination of education and practical work experience.
Three years systems administration or related work experience for client/server application(s) in a
Extensive experience with personal computers in a networked Windows environment.
Experience in using and maintaining automated systems.
Experience maintaining relational databases.
Experience with SQL Server and Windows Server.
Experience with Transact-SQL or other open-system database query language.
Experience utilizing Project Management methodologies.
Familiarity with the various phases of the software development lifecycle.
Web server administration using Microsoft IIS / Apache Tomcat.
Knowledge and Skills:
Intermediate word processing, spreadsheet and database skills required.
Desired/Preferred Skills and Experience:
Financial accounting, payroll, or Human Resources IT systems experience.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Proficiency in design and programming of customized report definitions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have any positions reporting to it; however, the incumbent may lead teams or projects.
