The Office of Development and Alumni Relations engages donors, alumni, friends, parents, faculty, staff and students in a lifelong relationship and fosters a tradition of philanthropy to strengthen the University’s legacy as one of the great public institutions of higher education in America. We invite applications for the Assistant Director, Alumni Relations (Alumni Clubs).

The critical mission of Alumni Relations is to broaden the reach of the alumni constituency base (nearly 160,000 alumni) and the surrounding community to increase engagement and involvement with the University of Delaware at every level (i.e. all people, colleges, departments, etc.).

The Assistant Director is part of a dynamic, growing Development program which is embarking on a campaign in support of the Path to Prominence™, the strategic plan of the University. Under general direction, the Assistant Director manages, plans, and executes a Global Regional Alumni Club structure, development, programs, and activities. The Assistant Director manages the efforts of multiple Alumni Clubs and Blue Hen Cities, including the volunteers, in the United States and eventually on an international basis. This position serves as the primary liaison between Alumni Relations and the Alumni Clubs, including the Clubs’ board officers, and will also work closely with the AVP of Alumni Relations, peers internal to the University, and the UD Alumni Association to promote and acquire participation of alumni with affiliated programs offered on behalf of the University on campus and in the country.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree, Master’s preferred, and two to three years of experience. Experience in alumni relations, marketing, and strategic management, event planning or related field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of people internal and external to the organization, including working effectively in a team setting. Ability to lead teams to desired results, particularly from an off-site perspective is very important, as is experience with program design and implementation. Experience with volunteer recruitment, cultivation, and management; ability to persuade, motivate, and influence others. Proven ability to perform tasks on own initiative. Entrepreneurial background is desirable to develop, implement, and evaluate new strategies, programs, and procedures. Superior oral and written communication skills as well as strong presentation skills. Excel in managing multiple priorities, organizing, resource management, and working with tight deadlines. Budget experience, computer efficiency, and the ability to evaluate, develop and edit marketing correspondence and related materials. Ability to work creatively and collaboratively with alumni and volunteers. Ability to develop and implement short-and-long-term goals and plans. Ability to use independent judgment and act as a UD spokesperson at events. Evening and weekend hours as well as significant local and domestic travel; and international travel is imminent.
