The University of Louisiana at Lafayette invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Research.

UL Lafayette is designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a Research University with High Research Activity. UL Lafayette has consistently ranked among the top 200 universities as reported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) based on an annual survey of federal and non-federal research and development expenditures. The University's total expenditures for research and sponsored programs in FY 2012 were $74.6 million dollars. Over the last three fiscal years, our largest federal sponsors were the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Defense.

The Vice President for Research has central responsibility for promoting excellence in research across the University by continuing the growth in the University's research mission through vision and leadership; overseeing the efforts of the University Research Park and University Research Centers; and building alliances with business and governmental entities that lead to increased resources for the University. The Vice President is also responsible for coordinating the activities of the University in the area of research including identifying on-campus research efforts; prioritizing and promoting research opportunities, as well as identifying national trends in which the University should participate; directing efforts of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs; and working with industries and federal, state and local agencies to support campus projects. Recommending campus-wide research policies to the Provost; serving on state, regional, and national committees directed to the promotion and support of research; and overseeing technology transfer and economic development activities of the University are other important responsibilities of the position.

Founded in 1898, the University is one of nine publicly supported universities in the University of Louisiana System. Our University consists of eight degree-granting colleges and the Graduate School. The University's enrollment is 16,687 and it employs approximately 650 full-time faculty. At present the University offers 100 undergraduate degrees, 26 master's degrees, 10 doctorates, and 20 graduate certificates.

The city-parish of Lafayette, Louisiana is home to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The city-parish is a progressive, technology-oriented region of approximately 225,000 people. Lafayette is a city highly recognized for its tremendous standard of living, unique Cajun and Creole cultures, high-tech atmosphere, and pleasing climate, as it is consistently rated as one of the best places to live in the United States, as well as one of the best places for doing business. As a result, the region is home to numerous high-tech companies and cultural entities that provide significant support to the University.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate from an accredited institution; a visionary leader capable of working well with departments, college deans, business leaders and government agencies at all levels; and excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with a national research identity; be able to demonstrate previous administrative success; be supportive of economic development; and conversant with technology and technology transfer issues.
