City of Baton Rouge, LA seeking Police Chief to lead nationally accredited Police Department with annual operating budget of $77.7 million & 886 employees. The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) is responsible for the enforcement of city ordinances and state laws within the city limits of Baton Rouge, an area encompassing approximately 76 square miles and populated by 228,000 citizens. The Police Chief is appointed by, and reports to, the MayorPresident. The ideal candidate will possess police administration experience, with a strong leadership and management background, as well as collective bargaining, personnel and budgeting experience.

Ability to communicate effectively with the MayorPresident, government and civil leaders, and media is essential. Advanced specialty training, strong disciplinarian skills and extensive community policing experience is desirable. Required Qualifications: Must have a bachelors degree in business administration, public administration, or a related curriculum and at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement positions, at least two (2) years of which must have been in positions which include administrative or supervisory responsibilities. OR Must have a bachelors degree or an associate degree in criminal justice, police administration, or other law enforcement curriculum and at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement positions.

OR Must present documentation indicating, at minimum, that the applicant has met the minimum high school graduation requirements necessary to receive a high school diploma as established by the state of Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. Such documentation shall include at least one of the following: high school diploma, high school transcript, certificate of equivalency, affidavit from the issuing high school, college diploma, or college transcript, any one of which must indicate that graduation has occurred or a degree awarded. A certification of completion shall not be sufficient to substitute for certification of graduation and at least twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement positions, at least four (4) years of which must have been in positions which include administrative or supervisory responsibilities. AND Law enforcement experience should include work in positions which would provide a background in patrol operations, criminal investigations, police training, and related areas of police department operations and management.

In addition, applicants must meet all requirements of the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Law, including being a citizen of the United States, passing a civil service examination for this position, passing a medical examination and possessing a valid drivers license.
