Mesirow Financial Direct Alternative's Investment Solutions Group (ISG) provides innovative and executable investment solutions in an efficient and timely manner, meeting the needs of large, sophisticated institutional investors (external clients) and fellow Direct Alternatives business units (internal clients). Conceptualize, research, engineer, code, and implement cutting edge, multi-asset class alternative investment strategies

Lead ongoing monitoring and continuous enhancement efforts for existing direct alternatives solutions, working in conjunction with Portfolio Management and Trading

Leverage quantitative methods and technology in providing investment solutions to promote efficiency, stability, and scalability

Generate and communicate bespoke, client-driven research and analysis over a vast array of topics including, but not limited to: portfolio construction & management, risk measurement & management, quantitative analysis, client’s strategic policy implications, strategy implementation

Provide written, analytical, and business development support to the Client Management team

5-7 years buy side research / portfolio management experience

PhD in Finance from top tier program required

Excellent programming capabilities (particularly Matlab)

Practical (not academic) experience in creating new (from concept to implementation), enhancing existing, and managing active institutional quality, alternative investment strategies

Proven ability to generate alpha in multiple asset classes

Dynamic asset / risk allocation experience desired

Ability to solve complex problems under tight deadlines and managing priorities

Highly quantitative (stats, maths, comp sci)

Superior written and verbal communication (prior client facing experience is desirable, examples of written work will be requested)

Entrepreneurial spirit, desires significant responsibility and takes ownership of work

Independent, creative thinker, guided by logic and supported by research and analysis

Works well within a team
