Job Posting Summary
Work to support advising for students--students getting degrees from UAS and also students from other MAU's--through coordination among both local advising staff and advisors from other University of Alaska programs statewide. By tracking, documenting and accessing pertinent information, this position will increase the consistency and accuracy of advising for students and ensure that they can complete their degrees in a timely manner. This position will be responsible for utilizing University systems to document program requirements and other advising information. Coordinate with faculty and UAS support staff to create enhanced course descriptions for the online semester course schedule that will allow students to get a better idea of course prerequisites, course expectations, how to succeed with an online course, etc. This position will also be responsible for researching and developing a variety of methods for reaching out to advise distance students using technology. This is a term appointment through 09/30/2011 with employment renewable yearly thereafter through 09/30/2015.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.
--Experience with Office Suite 2010 applications. --Experience with document preparation and layout. --Excellent telephone communication and customer service skills. --Documented written communication and presentation skills. --Documented ability to collaborate, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses).
Bachelor's degree in related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Coordinate with advising staff to ensure consistent advising for Sitka students. Work with advising staff to assess current advising methods. Work with advisors at other MAUs to ensure accurate advising for cross-MAU students. Work with University systems -- Banner, Degree works, and other database systems -- to document program requirements and other advising information. Research and develop means of providing better access to advising for distance students through a variety of methods, e.g., email, chat, Skype, social networking tools, etc. Work with advising staff and Title III team to facilitate ongoing assessment of advising and enhanced online schedule.
Work with faculty and advising staff to create enhanced descriptions of courses, faculty and programs to be included in an online schedule. Collect and report data relevant to assigned projects, and assist in preparation of reports and presentations.
