Living Classrooms Foundation (LCF) is a Baltimore-Washington based non-profit educational organization with a distinctive competency in experiential learning—literally learning by direct experience, or what we call “learning by doing.”

Living Classrooms has an opportunity for Out-of-School Time Educator (Literacy or STEM.) This employee will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing a coordinated program and activities for youth enrolled in our after-school and summer enrichment program. As with all our programming we are looking to create high interest, fun and educational hands-on activities and project oriented classes in an informal after school atmosphere located at the within our newest facility the Patterson Park Youth Sports & Education Center.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide instructional assistance to students grades K-8 in Literacy (if applying for the Literacy position) or STEM (if applying for the STEM position) available in an after school program at the Patterson Park Youth Sports & Education Center
  • Prepare materials for use in classroom sessions based on school curriculum
  • Prepare daily lesson plans
  • Keep attendance of sessions with students
  • Provide homework assistance to a class of 10-15 students
  • Act as a chaperone on program trips
  • Prepare periodic student evaluations/ assessments
  • Maintain contact with parents, students, teachers, and LCF staff regarding students' needs and progress
  • Assist students with and instruct in the use of computers and applications that will assist them in reading and other academic areas
  • Attend orientations, staff developments, staff meetings, and trainings
  • Facilitate at least one group workshop per session on topics that affect the youth serviced
  • Utilize online educational software in Literacy or STEM curriculum

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Interest or passion in working with students
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field with 1-2 years of relevant work experience; experience working with youth is preferred

o For Literacy Educator: Education, History, Social Science, Political Science, or any liberal arts majors that requires a significant amount of writing
o For STEM Educator: Science, Technology, Engineering & Math, or related field

  • Comfortable working in various urban settings and with diverse populations
  • Team-oriented with strong organizational and collaborative skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must be available to work after-school hours and evenings
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus

Additional information
Hours: Monday – Friday, 12:00pm until 6:00pm. Staff may occasionally be required to work weekends and/or additional hours for special events, programs, etc. Staff will receive advanced notice of these special circumstances. During the summer months, staff will work longer day-time hours.
