DESCRIPTION

This position will provide database engineering, technical expertise and leadership to drive the standardization and optimization of enterprise wide database environments. The DBA in this position must collaborate and communicate well with development, operations and management teams. They must have development experience, understand predominant application architectures and display strong analytical skills to solve complex technical issues affecting our businesses.

DUTIES

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Partner with development and operations to assess database hardware, database design and configuration requirements and recommend solutions that conform to supported standards.
  • Resolve critical business issues by providing technical expertise for Oracle RDBMS, including RAC, Data Guard and other underlying infrastructure technologies inside and outside the database.
  • Resolve performance issues by analyzing existing workload in production and pre-production environments and subsequently recommending the necessary SQL or database configuration changes.
Conduct Proof of Concept's (PoC) with business partners to validate the usefulness of new technologies and the viability of current standards handling existing application workloads.
  • Develop and maintain standard solutions for database patching, monitoring, management, migrations, upgrades and technical refreshes
  • Design, plan, script and execute major configuration changes in support of changing business and product needs
Conduct extended analysis and troubleshooting necessary for second and third level Incident and Problem Management
  • Translate highly technical solutions/problems into clear language useful to audiences at varying technical levels
  • Communicate in a professional manner when interacting across staff levels and internal/external customers
  • Evaluate and communicate risks in a timely manner
  • Set and manage expectations to achieve positive outcomes
  • Maintain positive and collected disposition during intense situations
  • Proactively generates relevant ideas for new and improved use of technology
  • Understands the impact of new projects and technical impacts to supported systems
  • Collaborates with peers, architects and managers to determine project strategy and how best to implement/support it
QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • 4-Year College degree (preferred) coupled with 7-10+ years of applicable work experience
Required Skills and Experience:
  • 5+ years of working experience with Oracle RDBMS
  • 5+ years of working knowledge in one of the following operating systems: Linux, Solaris, AIX, NT, and Windows.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, communication and verbal skills with a strong customer service focus
  • Ability to work well with different staff levels within and out of core competency
  • Basic data modeling and relational database design skills
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team, as well as independently toward assigned goals
  • Strong shell scripting background.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in utilizing change management systems and maintenance windows in support of achieving highly available enterprise systems.
  • Java or .NET development background.
  • 5+ years experience providing 24x7 support for Oracle on Unix/Linux platforms
  • 5+ years in a development or support organization supporting large applications
  • 3+ years experience with UNIX shell scripting
  • 3+ years experience supporting DB2/UDB on the AIX platforms
  • 3+ years experience supporting Oracle on NAS
  • 3+ years experience supporting multi-master replication technologies
