Job Description: Exxon Mobil Corporation is looking for an attorney with experience handling corporate, commercial, transactional, and advertising matters. The attorney will handle a variety of matters for the Fuels & Lubricants business unit, and work independently with supervision that is appropriate for the attorney’s level of experience.

The location of this job is initially in Fairfax, Virginia, but will subsequently be located in Houston, Texas coincident with new campus construction.

Primary Job Functions:

• Provide legal analysis and counsel on corporate, commercial, and advertising matters for Exxon Mobil Corporation and its affiliates
• Commercial contract negotiation and drafting, e.g., lubricants sales contracts, non-disclosure agreements, field testing/evaluation agreements, third party service provider contracts, and motorsports-related agreements
• Conduct and coordinate research into a variety of legal issues, ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and Company policy, anticipate and guard against legal developments, risks and exposures to the Company
• Prepare and review presentations, documents, and pleadings as relevant and necessary and associated with the above matters; provide face-to-face training for business unit personnel in a range of compliance issues, e.g. antitrust and anti-bribery
• Coordinate with and oversee outside counsel to ensure proper handling of matters where counsel is retained

Job Requirements:

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Strong college and law school record (top 1/3 of class preferred)
• Licensed to practice law in at least one state Strong research and writing skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated experience in a law firm, corporation, or agency handing corporate, transactional, commercial, advertising and/or oil and gas matters
• Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements
• Reputation for high ethical standards and integrity
• Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws
• Strong analytical skills and ability to exercise sound business judgment and work independently, but as a member of an integrated legal team

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to work with site clients to manage risk and evaluate alternative options where needed
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of advertising/marketing laws and Uniform Commercial Code
• Primary responsibility for compliance counseling and advice
• At least 5 years’ experience preferred
