Quinnipiac University invites applications for the position of Telecommunications and Infrastructure Specialist to assist in supporting of the University’s telecommunications infrastructure. The telecommunications infrastructure department deals with installation, operations, programing and maintenance of hardware and software for a variety of telecommunications systems. T hese systems include but not limited to: I P -PBX, call collection, 911 reporting software and infrastructure documentation tools.
The successful candidate is expected to research and evaluate available and emerging technologies, assess telecommunication needs and recommend system designs to meet department objectives and to perform related duties as assigned.
Review and perform all adds/moves/changes in both hardware and software, as required, that deal with the University’s telecommunications systems.
Review and perform repair services on hardware and software as needed.
Review, ascertaining accuracy, and recommend payment of invoices submitted by vendors for services rendered.
Assist in providing solutions for special requirements associated with the University’s telecommunications systems.
Oversee and coordinate assigned telecommunications activities at the University and other locations as required.
Recommend improvements to enhance the technical capabilities of the telecommunications systems and maintain operating costs.
Manage and fulfill work requests from members of the community.
Maintain the University’s call accounting system.
Provide user training, as required, for all aspects of the University’s telecommunications systems.
Act as a technical contact with vendors to troubleshoot problems and install services.
Pull voice and data cables.
Plan configuration of cable topology.
Install and test telecommunication components, including: Analog circuits; Tl lines and circuit packs.
Operate and maintain test equipment.
Analyze telecommunications system data and make corrections to the system as needed.
Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants:
Minimum Qualifications include:
Incumbents are expected to know how to operate and troubleshoot all telecommunications systems operated by the University in a variety of locations.
High school diploma or GED
Valid driver’s license
8 years of experience in Design, installation and repair of PBX systems and peripheral systems, services and equipment.
Associate’s degree, or vocational or technical school degree
