Seeking Nurse Practitioner to serve as a faculty position providing clinical support for oncology patients in the Phase I and Gastrointestinal Oncology programs.Supervision may be exercised as required for patient care.Examples of duties include: Perform evaluation and workup of new patients, and assist with management of returning patients.Formulate appropriate differential diagnoses based on clinical evaluation.Perform, order and/or interpret diagnostic studies within scope of practice.Plan and implement therapeutic regimens that include both nursing and medical management strategies, including prescription of medications/devices.Maintain accurate, legible, and confidential records.Assure patient and family teaching is adequate to manage the illness or wellness plan at home.Complete patient follow-up and management including tracking urgent test results, patient communication, and some patient-care related administrative paperwork.Receive and assist in patient phone calls which cannot be handled by the triage nurse and/or study coordinator. Respond to routine questions and requests, while referring more complex issues to the physician as necessary.Coordinate referrals to the phase I program from other practitioners within MUSC, and from community oncology practices. Screen patients for clinical trial eligibility.Perform scheduled study-related visits and toxicity assessments of patients on phase I-III clinical trials.Assist research staff in preparation of orders, flowsheets, adverse event reports, and other research-related documents.Participate in weekly tumor boards and phase I team meetings.Attend clinical research site visits and start-up meetings.Participate as a team member in providing healthcare, interacting with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive care.Intermittent weekend coverage of infusion center may be needed.
