This position is posted in a range from an Engineer II to an Engineer I.

Engineer within the Geotechnical Engineering Section of Engineering Services to support, primarily, the generation facilities of the AEP system. Work will initially be focused as task oriented functions to support engineering/design projects gradually increasing to more responsibility to complete single projects. Work will include a combination of office work consisting of performing engineering calculations, reviewing documents and preparing reports; and field work including reconnaissance and inspections of existing facilities and new sites.
This position will be based out of the AEP Corporate Office in Columbus , Ohio .
Travel will be required up to 30% within AEP Eastern and Western regions, including a combination of day trips and overnight stays.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The successful individual will be expected to have the technical skills to support landfill design and operations; design of pond closures and evaluation of subsurface conditions at AEP facilities.
The duties will include:
Perform calculations and analyses in the area of foundations, pavement design, slope stability, drainage and erosion/sediment control. Prepare conceptual grading plans.
Perform field inspections of dams, dikes and landfills and prepare reports summarizing the inspections and recommendations as appropriate. Such inspections will require physical exertion due to the nature of walking along the crests and slopes of berms.
Prepare scope of work documents for both engineering contracts and construction contracts.
Review reports and drawings prepared by consultants in support of AEP projects
Education: BS Civil Engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). MS Civil or MS Geo Technical degree preferable; Registered Professional Engineer or obtainable within 1 year of start.
Experience: Minimum six years experience in performing general civil engineering and geotechnical field and office work. This work may be related to: soil and foundation engineering; site and drainage design; landfill and earthen dam design and inspections; and/or environmental engineering. Knowledgeable in Microstation and/or AutoCAD is a plus.
