School of Theology and Christian Ministries
The School of Theology and Christian Ministries at Northwest Nazarene University has a respected tradition of service to the institution, the denomination, the region, and the communities of southwest Idaho. The School consists of the Departments of Religion and Philosophy that service the general education program of the University and several academic majors. The Department of Religion offers undergraduate majors in Christian Ministry, Missions, Youth Ministry, and Biblical Studies. The Department of Philosophy offers majors in Philosophy and Philosophy/Religion. The School also offers the Master of Arts degree (in Christian Education; Spiritual Formation; Youth, Church, and Culture; Pastoral Ministry; and Missional Leadership) and the Master of Divinity degree. The School consists of thirteen full-time faculty members who are actively engaged in both academic research (biblical, theological, and philosophical) and church ministry.
Description of the Position
The School of Theology and Christian Ministries of Northwest Nazarene University is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty member (Assistant Professor in Biblical Studies), preferably in New Testament, to begin in the Fall of 2014. This position will include teaching a variety of courses (general education courses in biblical studies and online masters courses in New Testament or biblical studies as well as other possible courses in Greek and New Testament exegesis, according to the candidates expertise and interests), along with academic advising and other faculty responsibilities within the University and School.
Applicants are preferred to possess a completed Ph.D. in a discipline within the field of biblical studies, preferably in New Testament (although ABD will be considered). Strong candidates will have a proven track record in teaching undergraduate and graduate students, understand teaching ministry as a Christian vocation, and demonstrate active engagement and contribution to biblical and theological scholarship through publication and academic service. Preference will be given to candidates who are ordained ministers in the Church of the Nazarene and have ministry experience. The University and School require that all candidates approach theology from a Wesleyan theological perspective, be in agreement with the mission and doctrines of the Church of the Nazarene, will find fellowship and service in the Church of the Nazarene, agree to live within the mission and lifestyle values of NNU, and be willing to help advance the mission and vision of the University.
The salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant.
