DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Performs disease intervention activities relating to the control of communicable disease among residents of the city. Assists Public Health Investigator Supervisor in the training of new Public Health Investigators and other personnel involved in disease intervention activities relating to the Disease Prevention and Control Division.
Conducts confidential interviews and investigations of patients diagnosed with or suspected of having sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV and syphilis. Performs field investigations to locate patients who have or are suspected of having sexually transmitted diseases and motivates them to seek appropriate treatment and follow-up. Visits private and public clinical laboratories and community-based organizations to ensure compliance with reporting laws and regulations. Identifies and establishes rapport with key individuals at these facilities. Assigned as liaison to community based agencies to provide technical assistance and support for STD/HIV infection activities. Completes case management notes in a timely manner and assists with the compilation of monthly and quarterly statistics. Observes all confidentiality and safety regulations. Performs venipunctures on an as-needed basis. Performs interviews, testing and investigations in a clinical and/or mobile (non-clinical) environment. May require coordination of mobile clinic activities with Community Based Organizations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Public Health or a closely related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of experience in the public health field is required.
Pertinent professional experience in the public health field may be substituted for the above educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).

PREFERENCES
Preferences will be given to applicants who have working knowledge of HIV/STD. Experience working with health care professionals and maybe required to work in a hospital setting. Strong verbal and written communication skills are preferred. Working knowledge of Word Processing and Data Management software and Outlook is a plus.

SALARY INFORMATION GRANT FUNDED POSITION
Grant positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. The salary range for this position is:
Salary Range - Pay Grade 16
