Primarily responsible for the successful execution of vertical and/or horizontal drilling programs in one or more of HighMount E&P’s asset areas. Secondarily responsible for the planning and lookback-analyses on all drilling programs.
Under moderate supervision works within a multi-discipline, operations focused team to perform routine – complex tasks involving data analysis and interpretation. Initiates and develops accurate and reliable data analysis techniques, workflow processes, and reporting methodologies. Monitors new technologies and draws upon experience to make recommendations for further exploitation of existing technologies and reporting systems. Position is typically viewed as tactically-focused, operations specific role. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Works closely with Land and Field personnel to guide wells thru the staking and permitting process for all wells
Updates locations in Petra (geo-tech…)
Interprets pre-drill Fm Tops
Creates pre-drill geo-prog for each well in support of active drilling programs
Attends daily drilling/operations meetings (7:45 AM mtgs)
Primary G&G contact during drilling/monitoring of all HighMount wells
Coordinates all well site operations activities including:
Geosteering of horizontal wellbores
Wellbore logging programs
Well sampling (mud logging) and/or coring programs
5-24% of time spent in the field (as needed basis)
Makes post-drill adjustments to Fm Tops and target interval picks
Makes post-drill completions (perfs) recommendation for all wells
Conducts quarterly performance lookbacks on active drilling programs
Works closely with other groups to incorporate necessary adjustments on future wells
The successful Ops Geologist should desire to work in a fast-paced multi-discipline team setting. Previous operations geological or geosteering experience is highly preferred. Advanced-level geological technician/analyst experience at a mid-large size E&P company will also be considered. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Petra, PowerPoint, and geosteering software (such as HIS) also highly preferred. Experience in Spotfire, SMT, and/or Jewel Suite 3D geocellular modeling software is also a plus.
