New Mexico State University is the states land-grant university, serving the educational needs of New Mexicos diverse population through comprehensive programs of education, research, extension education, and public service. The Cooperative Extension Service provides the people of New Mexico with practical, research-based knowledge and programs to improve their quality of life.
Masters degree (in hand by hire date) required. At least one degree must be in Education, Family and Consumer Sciences or Agriculture.
Satisfactory experience in Extension or related field demonstrating ability to work with youth and/or adults preferred. Previous extension experience preferred.
Ability to relate effectively to people of all ages, income, educational levels and ethnic background and develop informal educational programs to meet their needs.
Must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing as well as teach
Ability to implement educational learning experiences for both youth and adults in furtherance of the missions of Extension required.
Ability to provide a leadership role in management of volunteer organizations including recruitment, training and support of volunteers.
Successful candidate must have basic computer skills.
Examples of Duties:
Collaborate with youth serving community organizations and agencies to help further Extension 4-H/Youth Development programs.
Provide leadership and guidance to adults involved in youth development throughout the county via delivery of 4-H methodology and subject matter training.
Work directly with youth on traditional and non-traditional 4-H subject matters, including school gardens and outdoor classroom.
Recruit, train and support volunteer adult and youth leaders.
Team with other Extension Agents to plan and implement total Extension programs.
Maintain a favorable public image and gain acceptance for self, Extension and New Mexico State University among county citizens.
Administratively responsible to the County Program Director and through him/her to the Northern District Director
Provide timely reports as required.
