As a Linux Systems Engineer at SIG, you will be part of a team directly responsible for managing more than 3,000 Linux servers in a high performance computing environment. Your role will be hands-on as you build, configure, deploy, administer, and support systems utilized across our business.
You will work directly with both line of business and technology teams, such as Development, Database Administration, Storage, Networking, and Information Security, to identify optimal locations for these servers and to ensure that they are customized to meet both technical requirements and business needs. This is a fulltime role located at our headquarters in Bala Cynwyd, PA, just outside of Center City Philadelphia. Support and maintain existing Linux server based infrastructure including all areas of ongoing systems management such as monitoring, provisioning, problem diagnosis, task automation, patching and system maintenance
Troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly for various applications like DNS, DHCP, NIS, Sendmail and other infrastructure applications
Manage line of business requests that may drive new machine builds, configuration changes, performance tuning and/or updates within the environment; utilize automated tools wherever applicable to facilitate this activity
Utilize scripting to automate repetitive tasks using Python, Perl and/or Bash for Solaris and Linux
Partner with various systems administration and development teams to provide technical support related to dependent infrastructure applications
Make appropriate infrastructure recommendations to further enhance the server environment
Participate in early morning and off hours support schedules
Minimum of two years of Unix or Linux administration in an enterprise environment; experience with Suse (SLES 10 and / or 11) highly preferred
Bachelors degree in a technical or related discipline required; experience may substitute for education
Must possess a solid understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP and UDP protocols
Demonstrated understanding of Unix/Linux performance tuning concepts required
Proven experience in scripting skills in Python, Perl, and/or Bash required
Experience with kernel and network tuning on Linux required
Experience in Kickstart, Yast, Puppet and / or other automatic network based server build tools required
Knowledge of LDAP a plus
