The Senior IT Education Specialist will teach training workshops focusing on a broad range of information technology topics. This position will also provide excellent instruction and customer service; design and develop related instructional materials and documentation, both for classroom and online delivery, based on customer needs analysis; facilitates and participates in the identification and provision of other training related services as appropriate; provides technical support services to users of computing services and local support providers in departments in the form of direct consulting, departmental computing advising, skills instruction and course development, or documentation development and delivery. The successful candidate must be competent to consult, train, or document IU computing systems, applications, and information technology services as used in teaching, learning, research, and administration. Work with little supervision developing plans and delivering services. Provide technical and professional leadership for hourly consulting, teaching, and writing staff as well as junior (levels I, II, and III) appointed staff.

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and skills in the specific technical areas of spreadsheets, databases, and Web development, particularly Excel, Access, Dreamweaver, and XHTML is required. Programming skills in SQL preferred, experience with ASP.NET, Perl, CGI and/or Python programming considered a plus. Must be a team player. Proven excellence in the areas of teaching, oral and written communications, and in providing consistently high-quality customer service. Experience in collaborating on group projects preferred. Previous experience in providing technology support to a computing organization and experience writing user training and documentation materials highly desirable. Instructional and training materials development experience required, both for classroom and online (instructor-facilitated and self-paced) training formats. Extensive instructional delivery experience. Intermediate to advanced experience in Microsoft Office applications required, and experience using Adobe applications is strongly preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to interact effectively and courteously with a wide variety of members of the IU community at all levels of technical expertise. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Previous professional work experience in the IT industry preferred. Database, Web programming, and/or advanced experience using graphics applications is preferred. Project management experience strongly preferred, as is experience using a university collaboration and learning tool such as Oncourse, WebCT or Blackboard. Experience providing computing services and support in a University environment. Supervision experience very helpful. Strong classroom delivery; ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines; people leadership skills and team skills are very essential.

Required: Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of 3-4 years of work-related experience, preferably in delivering computer training to a diverse audience. Education and experience may be considered at a 2:1 ratio.

Preferred: Masters degree.
