As a Facilities Ultrapure Water (UPW) and Wastewater Engineer at Micron's Manassas, Virginia site, you will provide engineering for the design, operation, and troubleshooting of the UPW system, reclaim system, the wastewater treatment plant (IWTP), metal waste treatment systems, and drains from the fab. The UPW systems include the site city water distribution system, pretreatment plant, deionized water plant, ion exchange trains, reverse osmosis units, polishing systems, and distribution piping to and from the fab production equipment. The reclaim system includes the rinse water waste drain piping, storage tanks, reclaim ion exchange trains, and reclaim water distribution piping to the fab production equipment. IWTP consists of equalization tanks, clarifiers, neutralization tanks, distribution piping, and discharge piping to the City of Manassas. Monitoring contaminant projections in conjunction with the site discharge permit and environmental regulations is required.
In this position, you will work in a team environment with other engineering disciplines to provide detailed designs and construction specifications for the installation of new capital equipment and systems. You will provide engineering support to facility operations personnel in troubleshooting existing UPW and wastewater equipment and in starting up new ones. Your responsibilities will include reviewing all UPW and wastewater requirements during shutdown activities. You will also supervise and coordinate outside consultant resources. Your engineering duties will require that you exercise good judgment and apply standard engineering principles and practices. While investigating technical problems, you will establish procedures and corrective actions to avoid recurrences. Additionally, you will provide support for construction cost estimates and economic analysis of proposed projects, including consumable budgets and projections.
Your work will include providing support for the start up of new equipment and ensuring that all equipment will properly interface with other mechanical systems. Utilizing predictive maintenance techniques, you will identify water system and drain issues. You will maintain various administrative and engineering databases in support of job tracking, engineering data, capital equipment facilitation, and critical system loads and capacities. You will be responsible for maintaining and updating the site water mass balance, which includes water reuse rates. While specifying mechanical components for design projects, you will be responsible for assuring designs meet all applicable codes and regulations, which will require continual review and analysis of new and existing equipment, applications, and technology.
You will perform research and development on emerging facilities technologies to support cutting-edge semiconductor processes. Your responsibilities will also include participating in mid- to long-term infrastructure planning for facilities in support of the overall company plan. As you engineer safety into all designs, you will be aware of and perform all work in accordance with company safety guidelines. While maintaining good communication within the Facilities department and with all customers throughout the organization you will interface with public utilities personnel. You will be responsible for communicating your findings worldwide within Micron and will participate in benchmarking studies between sites.
Successful candidates for this position will have:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in ultrapure water and/or wastewater engineering.
