Position Overview

Extropy is currently hiring a network engineer for a 6-12 month contract to hire engagement in Anchorage Alaska with one of our large Cisco Integrator partners.

The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure that industry best practices and methodologies are applied to a network project involving voice, data, video and wireless network services. The engineer will oversee the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and recommendations in the resolution of network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide training to junior team members where required


Design and deploy managed LANs, WANs, including Cisco routers, switches, wireless design and firewalls.

Monitor network performance and troubleshooting primarily: Catalyst 6500 l3, 3750. and 3560

Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.

Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of customer managed hardware, software, and peripheral devices.

Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.

Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.

Required Skills

Related degree in computer science or electrical engineering and/or three to five years equivalent work experience.

Certifications CCNA or CCNP

Experience with logical design models (STP, VTP, VLANs, physical cabling).

Working technical knowledge of CoS, PoE, NTP, DHCP, network management protocols (CDP, TFTP, SNMP) and security protocols (SSH, HTTPS, AAA, IPSec).

Strong knowledge IP communication and routing is required (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, HSRP).

Experience with inter-company routing is preferred.

Understand WAN/LAN and transport technologies (Ethernet, MPLS, TDM circuits).

Experience with Cisco Secure ACS configuration

Primarily mid-level firewall experience to help support maintenance and operations and to relieve staff to work on critical projects.

Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.

Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Visio is required

Experience with Microsoft Server 2003 I 2008

Experience with Active Directory (MCSE)

Strong customer service orientation.

Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Experience with NetApp configuration and troubleshooting
