Summary

:

Under general supervision, performs highly technical and specialized duties in calibrating and maintaining laboratory instruments as specified in Standard Operating Procedures

(SOP's), ensures that completed tasks are documented as specified in the SOP's, maintain lab, conference rooms, warehouse, and office space; coordinate utility service activities and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions

:

Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and state, federal and local laws.

·

Calibrates instruments in accordance with SOPs.

·

Performs preventative maintenance and repairs instruments as per written procedures.

·

Performs major and minor repairs to laboratory instruments as necessary.

Documents all work performed in accordance with SOPs.

·

Reviews calibration documentation generated during the calibrations performed by other Metrologists and any outside vendor.

·

Maintains the instrument database and generates reports as necessary.

·

Coordinates and tracks service contracts and laboratory instrument calibration and/or repair activities performed by outside vendors.

·

Assists Laboratory personnel in resolving instrumentation problems.

·

Creates and reviews calibration procedures and revisions.

·

Creates and reviews calibration worksheets and revisions.

Participates in training programs that result in the development of a successful working understanding of the material presented to become proficient in assigned duties and tasks.

Coordinates and/or conducts calibration OOS and OOT investigations as required.

·

Writes, reviews and approves Lab Instrument Validation protocols.

·

Perform coordination of activities to maintain the facility.

·

Coordinate Utility service activities like maintenance repair work at office/lab/warehouse for plumbing, electrical, painting, furniture installation, floorings, construction and repairs.

·

Coordinate lab maintenance activities like DI system maintenance, MilliQ system and air compressor.

·

Participates in building controls management like warehouse maintenance, conference room maintenance, parking lot maintenance etc.

·

Participates in safety, security and emergency response systems like fire extinguishers, ladder safety, Job Hazard analysis, Lockout/Tagout.

·

Implement the safety procedures e.g. maintaining MSDS for all chemicals, procurement, storage, usage and disposal of HF at North Brunswick etc.

·

Implement and maintain the waste management program.

·

Perform glassware washing to support analytical personnel.

·

Support other departments for establishing the above mentioned systems at North Brunswick site and qualification and calibration of new instruments at North Brunswick site.

·

Work with QA group for approval of protocols, deviations and reports.

·

Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge and Skills

:

Knowledge of

:

·

Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other regulatory requirements.

·

Basic laboratory equipment (glassware, balances, etc.).

·

Operation, maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments.

·

Testing, measurement and diagnostic equipment.

·

Computer applications and programs.

·

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Skill in:
·

Reading, understanding and complying with Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.

·

Following all Company safety rules and regulations, recognizing hazards and taking appropriate corrective action.

·

Troubleshooting and repairing problems or malfunctions with laboratory instrumentation.

·

Accurately performing calibration procedures, as scheduled.

·

Maintaining accurate records and documentation of all work performed.

·

Operating laboratory equipment and common hand tools.

·

Operating a personal computer and standard software applications.

·

Communicating clearly and concisely, in English, both orally and in writing.

·

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

:

Incumbents in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds, vision to monitor and moderate to loud noise levels. Work is performed in a laboratory environment.

Education

. A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering or a related scientific discipline and a minimum of nine (9) - thirteen (13) years of related laboratory instrumentation experience, preferably in food, cosmetic or pharmaceutical industry, or two (2) years experience as a Metrologist III; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
