Responsibilities

Work with the chief executive and chief financial officers to create a strategic and diversified fundraising plan that sets ambitious fundraising goals and maximizes opportunities with a variety of funding sources.
Build and maintain a portfolio of funding partners for general operations and special project support, including foundations, corporations, other nonprofits, and individuals. Actively identify and cultivate these relationships.
Guide and coordinate strategic corporate goals and deliverables as they relate to the grants, membership, and individual contributions programs.
Provide strategic and tactical leadership to the department to ensure high performance, including developing and managing the annual fundraising budget across the grants, membership, and individual contributions programs.
Plan, direct and execute each stage of the membership development process:

The collection and interpretation of member and non-member intelligence, including member needs, the member benefit package, entry criteria, and competitiveness using membership surveys
The recruitment of new members and affiliates
Build and maintain strong, positive, productive relationships with existing and prospective funding sources.
Develop and direct general marketing campaigns to promote GuideStar's mission and purpose and ensure these are coordinated with recruitment and retention activity.
Identify new market opportunities and research changes in the industry that may affect the membership program and customer needs.
Drive the individual contributions program to increase small gift donations year over year.
Establish innovative recognition and engagement strategies.
Oversee the preparation of the high-quality proposals, grants, reports, mailings, and acknowledgements required to support ongoing fundraising.
Continue to manage all appropriate systems and metrics to increase operational efficiencies and enhance evaluation procedures.
Travel as needed to cultivate and maintain close relationships with funders, members, and other allies.
Supervise staff of one full-time development coordinator.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
Working Relationships

Work collaboratively with other departments within GuideStar, including finance, sales and marketing, and technology to find creative solutions to build and cross-sell the membership program.

Qualifications

6+ years' expertise in partnership development, membership management, or fundraising
Bachelor's degree required; MBA, MPP, or other advanced degree preferred
Prior managerial experience
Proven results in building programs both in terms of new revenue and number of new members
Ability to build rapport with donors, senior management, and the public with diplomacy, discretion, and customer-service orientation
Expert knowledge of direct mail campaigns and/or online solicitations that build programs significantly year over year
Self-starter with an ability to thrive and work effectively either alone or as part of a small team in a fast-paced and rapidly growing organization, with limited instruction
Strong attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects, meet deadlines, problem-solve, handle numerous tasks concurrently, and adapt to a constantly changing environment
Experience building membership programs via marketing and/or other campaigns with a nonprofit membership organization is preferred
Excellent computer skills, specifically MS Office products, CRM, and donor management software
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
