Design, develop, support, and upgrade hardware and software for computer-based control systems, data analysis and manipulation, and other control and monitoring support systems as required for the APS facility. Contribute to the advancement of control systems tools and techniques for current and future accelerators. Contribute to reliability and continued operations of the APS facility. Act as a lead engineer for controls-related engineering projects of a complex nature. Specialize in interlock, protection and data analysis.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Comprehensive knowledge of software techniques in connection with control system applications, including programming languages used with control systems at the APS and EPICS.
Considerable knowledge of digital logic and microprocessor used in controls applications. Considerable knowledge of the use of C and C++ language programming and the operating systems used in controls systems - both support level and real time programming. Considerable experience designing signal conditioning circuits for interfacing purposes. Considerable experience with EPICS.
Good familiarity with backplane/interface standards. Good knowledge of accelerator and control technology. Good verbal and report-writing skills.
Must be available for 24 hour on-call rostered support.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 7+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 6+ years or their equivalents
