3M Research and Development is seeking electronics/software intern candidates to work in 3M Health Information Systems Laboratories. The target start date for this position is May/June 2014.

An intern (typical 10-12 week, full-time schedule assignment) position is a temporary assignment with 3M's Corporate Student Programs. Corporate Student Programs is designed to provide 3M with the opportunity to identify qualified candidates for regular employment, and to provide students with the opportunity to integrate their academic knowledge with work experience. Typical assignments may include the following activities:
- Performing software development and testing
- Participate on engineering design teams
- Work across the entire product development life cycle
- Keeping accurate records in laboratory notebook
- Communicating results in both oral and written form
- Performance testing of products and prototypes
- Prototype sample design/fabrication/formulation
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a bachelors degree or higher in Science or Engineering
- Current minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's level or higher degree program in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or another science or engineering degree with an accredited university, having completed at a minimum your Sophomore year
- Master’s and doctoral degree candidates are encouraged to apply
- One (1) year of computer science/engineering coursework and/or hands-on computer programming experience

This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year.

Location: The person hired for this position will be located at 3M’s site in Murray, Utah and subsidized housing will be provided for those who qualify.

Responsibilities of this position may include direct and/or indirect physical or logical access to information, systems, technologies subjected to the regulations/compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.

U.S. Export Control laws and U.S. Government Department of Defense contracts and sub-contracts impose certain restrictions on companies and their ability to share export-controlled and other technology and services with certain "non-U.S. persons" (persons who are not U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents of the U.S., refugees, "Temporary Residents" (granted Amnesty or Special Agricultural Worker provisions), or persons granted asylum (but excluding persons in nonimmigrant status such as H-1B, L-1, F-1, etc.) or non-U.S. citizens.

To comply with these laws, and in conjunction with the review of candidates for those positions within 3M that may present access to export controlled technical data, 3M must assess employees' U.S. person status, as well as citizenship(s).
