The successful candidate will partner with members of the Neuroscience Research Senior Staff to develop and execute the overall strategic vision for the Therapeutic Area (Pain/Migraine, Neurodegenerative Disorders, and Neuropsychiatry). She or he will lead the Neuroscience group and research activities at the Amgen Cambridge Research facility (AMA) and will serve on the AMA Leadership Council.

Responsibilities and Expectations
• Translate the business strategy and define success for the team
• Take personal accountability for the Therapeutic Area portfolio
• Manage teams through all phases of the drug discovery process
• Accountable for the design of mechanistic and proof of concept studies as well as critical cell-based assays, biomarker development and target coverage models
• Create novel target discovery platforms
• Hold others accountable for their commitments and project outcomes
• Set clear objectives and monitor progress
• Help remove obstacles and barriers to progress
• Maintain high performance, ethical and compliance standards
• Make clear decisions in a timely manner
• Build diverse, effective teams that exceed expectations
• Establish personal networks within the site and across Amgen’s Research facilities
• Seek new relationships and collaborations with local key opinion leaders
• Promote innovation, manage risk, and create a competitive advantage
• Assess and incorporate advances in cutting-edge technology

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree & 4 years of directly related experience
OR
Master’s degree & 8 years of directly related years
OR
Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of directly related experience
AND
4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications
PhD or MD/PhD strongly preferred

Proven track record of scientific excellence with a strong publication history

Significant leadership experience in a research environment (8+ years)

Experience in biopharmaceutical research is preferred but not essential

Deep expertise in mechanisms related to Pain/Migraine would be beneficial
