Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Staffing Coordination, the Home Care Aide will assist the client with authorized housekeeping and personal care services in the client's place of residence.

Perform the tasks as specified on the Paraprofessional Care Plan including but not limited to:
Assist the client with required cleaning tasks/light housekeeping duties including assembly of necessary cleaning supplies and tools; vacuum/mop floors; dust furniture; wash dishes; launder/fold clothes; clean/sanitize bathroom, wheelchair, walker, cane, commode, bedpan, urinals, and any other sick room items as necessary. Return cleaning supplies and tools to original location when finished.
Assist client with meal planning and/or preparation, and/or serving and feeding/fluid intake.
Run errands and do shopping from client's prepared shopping list using personal vehicle.
Able to legally drive the client's vehicle when authorized by the client to transport client to appointments.
Assist with personal care tasks. Prepare and assist with a type of bath (shower, tub, sponge). Assist with shampooing, hair and oral care. Assist client with dressing. Ensure client's safety in and around bath area. Maintain a comfortable room temperature that is free from drafts. Change bed linens as necessary. Clean the bathroom and bedroom after use. Return any personal care supplies to original location.
Provide skin care and apply lotion.
Inspect skin for any open or bruised areas. Report any observations to the office staff.
Assist client with cleaning and filing nails. Do not cut nails.
Provide medication reminders. Medication administration is prohibited.
Encourage exercise for client.
Engage in conversation, games, and/or puzzles if client wishes companionship in these activities.
Assist with routine ambulation and transfer activities such as walking with a walker or cane or propelling a wheelchair. Assist with applying and removal of special appliances and/or prosthetic devices such as braces, artificial limbs, etc.
Maintain good rapport with client and family. Be courteous and positive at all times. Do not discuss personal problems.
Complete required documentation in a neat, timely and accurate manner.
Respond to messages from the office in a timely manner.
Maintain client confidentiality.
Other job-related duties as needed and approved by supervisor.

Must be 21 years of age or older.
Must have a valid Arizona driver's license and maintain vehicle insurance coverage at the minimum level required in Arizona.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must be able to read, write and understand English effectively.
Must have, or be able to obtain, a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Department of Public Safety background check/fingerprint clearance process.
Must be able to show evidence of being free from communicable disease (TB) upon hire and annually thereafter.
Must be able to recognize unmet client needs and potential problems and to notify the Program Manager of these observations.
Must be able to perform job with minimal supervision.
Must be able to stoop, bend, push and physically assist the client with his/her needs and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must have working knowledge and understanding of personal care skills.
Must not have any restrictions for physical work for which reasonable accommodation cannot be made.

Knowledge and understanding of personal care needs pertaining to the elderly and disabled.

Minimum Required:
Must have at least one and a half years' of professional caregiving/respite experience with senior citizens and/or adults with disabilities.
Must complete eight hours of in-service training annually (calendar year).
Must have current CPR and First Aid certification. (Classes in CPR and First Aid certification will be provided within one month of hire.)

High School Diploma or GED.
Experience working with elderly individuals and/or individuals with disabilities.
Have the Direct Care Worker (DCW) training, as required by Arizona state statute, and be able to provide proof of training. (NOTE: CNAs, LPNs, and RNs with current certification/licensure are exempt from this DCW requirement.)

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
The majority of the work time is spent working in clients' homes (with varying degrees of cleanliness) and traveling to assignments.
Must be able to stoop, bend, push and physically assist the client with his/her needs and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

The Home Care Aide is required to be sensitive to the needs of the client, alert to changes that must be reported, and able to make a significant impact in the independence of the clients.
This is a paraprofessional position providing direct care services. Unauthorized individuals (i.e., children, friends, and relatives) and/or animals must not accompany the Home Care Aide while performing the services.
