Responsible for providing assistance in the recruitment of underrepresented transfer students. This includes but is not limited to coordinating existing resources and services to create a continuum of support services to underrepresented students, and developing new strategies to market NIU to underrepresented students in Illinois. Develop and implement outreach strategies to recruit underrepresented transfer students. This will include both on and off-campus activities, publications, electronic communication, as well as networking with faculty, counselors and advisors employed at community colleges identified with significant underrepresented student populations.
Develop and coordinate recruitment activities with NIU offices involved with the academic success of underrepresented students. Act as the liaison between the Office of Admissions and other offices, organizations, and agencies involved with the college selection process and retention of underrepresented transfer students. Other staff assignments as required (on campus counseling, evening and weekend programs, reports, publications input, etc.). Assist with the selection of the Transfer Scholars Award. This entails the promotion of the scholarship, coordination with Residential Life, coordinating the review and selection of recipients, and monitoring of required responsibilities as a Transfer Residential Scholar. Serve as advisor for the transfer organization Tau Sigma. Coordinate annual awards ceremony, voting process for Tau Sigma leadership council. Also work with national Tau Sigma office to order supplies and lead recruitment process of Tau Sigma members. Responsible for taking a lead with recruitment of veterans. Identify and attend specific veterans events around the state and region. Collaborate and work with Veterans Benefits Office. Review of veterans publications.
Baccalaureate degree required. Three to five years of successful experience in college/university admissions or higher education setting. Valid driver's license required. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to give presentations before large groups. Dedication and commitment to customer service. Ability to project a favorable image on behalf of the University. Previous experience working with an underrepresented higher education population. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail required. Ability to do extensive automobile travel and some overnight travel and weekend assignments required.
