Summary of Position

Primary responsibilities include development and maintenance of the college’s public website, intranet/extranet, web applications, and databases. Works with web and IT staff to perform technical and specialized work in the area of web and database programming, development, and administration. Works closely with the campus community to continually develop and maintain databases and Web-based services, tools and information that support the institution’s mission, improve the teaching and learning environment, and promote strategic communication.

Duties and Responsibilities

Use modern programming languages and web technologies to develop and maintain web properties for the college and related organizations. Current technologies to be used include, but are not limited to: HTML5 and CSS3 with emphasis on backwards compatibility; JavaScript; C# and ASP.NET 4.5; SharePoint 2013; SQL Server 2008 and 2012; and IIS 7.5.

Troubleshoot, maintain and reverse engineer existing web applications.

Develop, maintain and troubleshoot ASP.NET applications using C# across multiple frameworks (SharePoint 2013, Jenzabar JICS 7.5, etc).

Analyze, design, develop, maintain and tune multiple SQL Server databases and servers.|

Analyze existing classic ASP websites and web applications and convert to new technologies.

Work on a broad spectrum of technology projects, both individually and with existing web and IT teams.

Assist institutional research staff to develop data queries for custom InfoMaker reports.

Work with graphic designers to implement designs using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Develop new public websites and private intranets / extranets using SharePoint 2013 and other systems.

Assist with development and management of SharePoint 2013 as a CMS.

Develop complex queries and data handling methods using T-SQL.

Design, develop and maintain custom portlet applications for ERP portal ( Jenzabar JICS ).

Implement, monitor and provide reports on web properties analytics.

Assist with development, management and support of LMS (Blackboard Learn).

Develop data bridges and communication channels between multiple applications and systems.

Adhere to accessibility and other legal requirements when developing web properties.

Develop web properties to be responsive and mobile-friendly whenever appropriate.

Help implement, monitor and audit the security of all web-related systems.

Identify and assist with implementation of application development best practices.

Create documentation for development projects and web systems.

Communicate complex information effectively to team members and other employees.

Research, evaluate and recommend new web-related technologies on an on-going basis.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Strong web and database development and administration skills, including extensive knowledge of languages and tools such as:


C# and/or VBScrip


Visual Studio 2010 and/or 2012

SQL Server 2008 and/or 2012

Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

2-5 years of professional web and database development experience preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Strong web and database development and administration skills, including extensive knowledge of languages and tools such as:


C# / ASP.NET 4.0 and 4.5

IIS 7.5

Knowledge of web design and UX principles such as graceful degradation, progressive enhancement, responsive design, etc.

Experience with developing for SharePoint 2010 and/or 2013.

Experience with a higher education ERP and portal, especially Jenzabar EX andJICS.

Experience with LMS technologies, especially Blackboard Learn and related systems (Bb Collaborate, Bb Mobile, etc).

Experience with developing in Microsoft Access.

Familiarity with InfoMaker.

Experience with Google Analytics.

Knowledge of non-Microsoft web tools and languages, such as PHP, MySQL, Linux, Joomla, Drupal, Bootstrap, jQuery, etc.
