The Nurse Aide/Certified Nurse Aide works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or LPN to assist with general nursing care to patients/residents as directed by the nurse. The NA/C.N.A. duties include personal hygiene, comfort and safety measures, assisting with activities of daily living, and simple nursing procedures outlined in the job responsibilities. The NA/C.N.A. assists with maintaining a clean environment for the patient/resident in the rooms and other areas of the unit. The NA/C.N.A. has knowledge of and utilizes appropriate age related patient/resident protocols from pediatrics to geriatrics. The NA/C.N.A. works collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team members. This position may have access to medications for purposes of distribution by licensed personnel. Computer data input and documentation relative to resident/patient care is required. CPR training is mandatory and completed within 6 months of hire. NA/C.N.A. may be scheduled to work at Hospital or Care Center.
Job Knowledge and Skills: Must be able to work with growth and developmental needs of unique client populations.
Other duties expected but not limited to include: maintaining clean patient/resident and work environments, stocking patient/resident and work areas. In addition, this role may include reception duties, i.e., answering phones, providing family and visitor directions, helping physicians find chart reports. Must have strong communication skills to collaborate with other health care team members. Expected to provide quality customer service.
Must have good interpersonal skills, must be organized and have the ability to prioritize work. Must know how to use organizational policies and procedures. Requires knowledge of department supplies and monitoring equipment. Requires use of multi-line telephone system, fax and copy machines, computer, vital signs monitor, and paging systems. Requires ability to do detailed work correctly, function under and handle stress.
The nursing department is open 24 hours/day, any of those hours may be an expectation of employment specific to the needs of the department. These needs change dependent upon staffing availability. Will be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Certification and successful completion of C.N.A. course which require 75 hrs. of formal classroom and clinical time is required within 4 months of hire.
