We are currently looking for a Linux Systems Engineer to join our Annapolis, MD. The selected candidates must be knowledgeable of and experienced with Linux administration, systems integration, and systems support. You will have the opportunity to work with a multi-functional technical group which includes technical professionals with expertise in network administration and infrastructure, web application development, database administration, etc.
Principal responsibilities include:
Responsible for or participating in all infrastructure initiatives within the program that involve Linux, Apache, MySQL, and cloud-based solutions.
Build and support a rapidly growing Linux web infrastructure
Support existing RHEL modeling cluster
Implement new and maintain existing Linux infrastructure.
Implement and maintain LDAP authentication and centralized management for Linux systems
Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures.
Monitor performance for all responsible server systems.
Monitor and maintain system security to ensure system integrity.
The selected candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree and at least seven years of relevant experience, with five or more years specialized in administration and design of computer networks and systems. Five years of relevant additional experience may be substituted for a B.A. or B.S. degree.
Required Skills and Competencies:
Strong skills in Apache performance tuning and high availability
Shell scripting (bash)
Web service deployment (Apache, Tomcat, etc…)
Experience with load balancers
Familiarity with PHP and deploying and tuning PHP applications
Experience with MySQL servers
Nagios and/or other monitoring experience
Familiarity with security compliance (FISMA / NIST 800-53 / ISO 27001)
Familiar with HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, Message queuing, Proxy servers, VPN.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience in supporting RHEL clusters and HPC software such as Slurm and xCAT
Advanced experience with Amazon (or similar) Cloud Services
Experience in reverse proxy software
Source control experience (Subversion preferable)
Strong documentation and reporting skills
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products including Visio and Project
