About the job:
Has authority to ensure safe and efficient operations of all departments of the Yard in accordance with Company standards and procedures. Directs all activities of the scrap metal recycling departments in an efficient manner for the desired quality, quantity, and profitability of the work.

DUTIES

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Be instrumental in leading the EH&S program at the yard. This includes attending monthly employee safety meetings, weekly meetings with local EH&S person to discuss yard issues and following up with employee if an incident occurs. Make sure all accident reporting, accident investigation, safety training, and any related compliance issues are completed per the PSC Policy and are reported to VP of Operations with a corrective action plan.

2. Be accountable for the day to day operations of the McKinley Yard including, but not limited to:

  • Ferrous and Nonferrous Production schedule
  • Inventory Management including Production transfers and zeroing's
  • Equipment PM's and Maintenance schedule
  • Operating cost per ton by department
  • Monthly barge schedule
  • Monthly rail schedule
  • Explaining monthly financial variances against monthly budget and forecast.
3. Review current established ferrous and nonferrous production measurements. Make sure those levels are being met, determine opportunities for improvement and implement the changes.

4. Work with Buying Group on quality issues involving customer rejects or downgrades. Document downgrade by use of pictures and written report. File the information.

5. Work very closely with Human Resources regarding employee matters, including employee relations, employee development, and employee discipline. Be actively involved with new employee hires. Make sure employee understand the expectation we have of them and they are fully aware of the policy and procedures of PSC Metals.

6. Provide Human Resources the justification for employee promotions, merit raises or terminations. Initiate and approve yearly, (if applicable) incremental increases for hourly personnel and make recommendations regarding employee career development.

7. Responsible for monitoring incoming materials for hazardous content and determine accept or reject status within scope of defined company policy and procedures.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/SKILLS/WORK EXPERIENCE:
1. Associates degree minimum; Bachelors degree preferred

2.Minimum 5 years work experience in scrap business.

  • Must have working knowledge of shredder and downstream
  • Must have working knowledge of burning HMS
  • Must have general knowledge of nonferrous commodities and processing equipment
  • Must understand "Team Concept" and understand its value
3.Microsoft Office - must be able to use as required
