President and CEO
Woods Services - Langhorne, PA
Diversified Search Odgers Berndtson has been retained by Woods Services to assist the Board in indentifying candidates for the role of President and CEO. After 25 years of visionary and impactful leadership, Robert Griffith, Ed.D., Woods’ President and CEO, will be retiring. Woods Services is a NFP multi-faceted services organization providing educational, residential and vocational services to 1,400 children and adults with special needs who come from 27 states. Primarily based on a 300-acre campus in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, 40 minutes away from center city Philadelphia in Bucks County, Woods also serves clients at community residential and program locations in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware Counties. The campus is in pristine condition with capital improvements averaging $2.5 million annually.

The Board is seeking a President and CEO who possesses a passion for the mission of providing exceptional care to individuals. The new President and CEO will function as an ambassador for the organization and will be responsible for stewardship of the organization’s financial resources; strategic direction of the organization, subject to approval by the Board; and assurance of the highest quality and best practice in services. In collaboration with Board and management, the organization’s next President and CEO must be able to provide leadership and direction that will ensure Woods’ ongoing commitment to its mission and its continued viability in the context of a changing and challenging funding environment. He or she will need to be entrepreneurial and innovative in developing strategies, programs and services to meet the needs of the clients served and in nurturing and/or identifying the funding sources to provide the resources required to do so.

Woods Services’ Board of Trustees is comprised of 15 engaged and committed members who reside nationally, some of whom have relatives in the various programs and all of whom have developed a deep personal commitment to the mission. The Board meets quarterly; one of those meetings is via teleconference. The President serves as a voting member of the Board of Trustees for both Woods Services, Inc., and Woods Services Foundation and is a member of the Executive Committee.

Over the past 25 years, Woods Services has experienced dramatic growth from revenues of $40 million in 1986 to $140 million today and has an S&P of A- with a stable outlook based on the company’s experienced and well-tenured senior management team, strong operating performance, healthy balance sheet, strong philanthropic support, and nearly 100% compliance in all major licensing surveys. Although a high dependence on governmental funding is a concern for all human service providers, the diversification of Woods funding sources across school districts and human services departments in several states diminishes this concern. Positive margins are driven by consistently strong occupancy rates, good expense control, and the capacity to serve residents with multiple disabilities, translating into higher reimbursement.
