Computing Resources is set to meet the diverse, continually changing information technology needs for the CVM as a whole. This includes all faculty, staff, students, researchers, administration and the Veterinary Health Complex. Computing Resources must keep in the forefront of computing technologies, support existing technologies, as well as protect the integrity of IT processes and data
Essential Job Duties
This position is the primary database administrator for the CVM . This position will also be involved in systems interface programming and Linux systems administration. They will use a variety of technologies including Oracle 11G, PERL and Redhat Linux. Other technologies in use at the CVM include PHP , C++ and Coldfusion.
Data Base Administrator: The DBA duties of this position requires the installation, maintenance and backing up of Oracle databases in general and the creation and maintenance of individual Oracle database instances on all production, test and virtual servers within the College.
Systems Interface Programming: There are many free standing applications and lab equipment throughout the Veterinary Health Complex, College and research areas that must communicate directly with the HIS / LIS applications and potentially other applications throughout the College. The building and support of system interfaces is a duty of this position
Linux/Red Hat Systems Administration: All our Oracle database instances run under Redhat Linux. Installation, updating and maintenance of these Linux systems is a duty of this position.
Assist in software applications development as needed. Also assist with the building and support of our VM environment and connectivity of external storage devices.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or a Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Departmental Required Skills
In depth experience in Oracle database administration and systems programming.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Graduation from a four-year college or university with nine semester hours in IT related coursework with at least three to five years of experience in the field of relational database administration.
Three to five years hands on Oracle relational database experience. A proficient level of experience with the Perl scripting language. Some RedHat Linux system administration.
