The Lab Services Rep will work at VMG Williamson County on Edward Curd Lane. In addition to the key functions listed below, this position also performs phlebotomy work.
a. Draws blood from patients in the outpatient clinic
b. Uses appropriate phlebotomy techniques including syringe, vacutainer and
capillary skin puncture techniques
c. Practices age specific guidelines
Responsible for accessioning specimens or patient tissue materials for testing including packaging specimens or tissue materials to be sent out to referring laboratory. Works closely with all laboratory staff, medical staff, and external customers. Performs customer service functions including telephone etiquette and basic troubleshooting and problem resolution.
Key Functions and Expected Performances:
Receives and triages specimens
Accessions specimens or tissue materials using appropriate information systems
Enters and retrieves data from multiple computer systems
Contacts physicians, hospitals and other medical staff to advise them of problems, delays and test results
Solves problems and reports unresolved issues to supervisor
Meets established turn around times and/or services standards
Prepare specimens and patient materials for shipping
Prepares specimens for transport using appropriate packing and shipment techniques
Complete laboratory requisitions or forms
Interfaces with courier services to facilitate specimen transport
Monitors turn-around time for send-out tests
Communicates with outside laboratories providing information as needed
Provides general clerical support
Maintains files and records
Transcribes documents which could include knowledge of medical terminology
Scans or copies documents
Provides customer service
Communicates information accurately by phone or fax
Demonstrates excellent telephone skills and etiquette
Troubleshoots customer concerns and complaints and reports unresolved issues to supervisor
Job requires High school graduate or GED and 3 years of experience or the equivalent.
