This position will provide school based behavioral health counseling services as part of the Neighborhood Strategies (NS) division within Public Strategies. Neighborhood Strategies is part of a larger place based initiative focused in Northeast Oklahoma City (NEOKC) and collaborates with schools in this area to provide consistent on site counseling services to students. We primarily serve children between the ages of 6 and 18 who are currently receiving or eligible for Medicaid (Soonercare) Title IXX benefits. Our emphasis is on reducing behaviors that lead to extended time out of the classroom, time spent in the principal’s office, or suspended from school. By working with the schools and the family of our clients we can have a positive impact on educational outcomes for our clients and other students affected by this behavior.
This position has the critical role of being both an advocate for the families of our clients within the school and working with teachers and administrators to address behavioral issues that negatively impact the classroom and learning environment. The Therapist will be a consistent presence in the school to help our clients deal with their challenges when and where they occur and be a consistent resource to assist in their educational success. Because we work at schools throughout this community the Therapist will be in a unique position to collaborate with other NS staff to provide comprehensive support to the children and families in NEOKC with the most relevant insight and information helping to inform treatment options and approach. We hope to have long term positive impact on our clients by working with them from the start of grade school to the completion of high school.
