Manages the procurement activities to insure that materials are available and at the optimal value while maintaining the lowest inventory levels possible. Seeks to establish partnering relationships with key suppliers to maximize value (optimal price, delivery cycle, quality, and service/technical support) for our organization. Works cross functionally (internal/external to YSI) to achieve the Operations Team’s deliver, cost and quality objectives.
1. Manage purchase orders with suppliers based on material requirements driven by customer orders, forecasts, and pull system signals.
Order equipment. Tools and material required to support the business.
Recommends major purchases of materials based on anticipated changes in price or on unusual availability situations
Assists in selecting vendors, assists in assessing vendor capabilities, develops alternate sources, evaluates vendor performance and negotiates price and delivery schedule.
Responsible for meeting or exceeding pre-established procurement goals. This to include OTD, DPPM, and PPV.
Support outsourcing relationships.
Serve as primary contact between YSI and suppliers who support us.
Take a lead role within purchasing to rollout lean, kaizans, and kanbans. This to include rolling these initiatives out to the supply base.
Leverage other YSI locations to reduce material costs and overall spend.
Work with engineering and purchasing to help design for manufacturability of products. Understanding of material specifications, blue print reading, fixturing, and assembly helpful.
Take a lead role in implementing and rolling out synergy projects to include private label projects with other Xylem company’s.
Serve on Material Review Board.
Conduct supplier audits.
Assist in maintaining supplier grade cards.
Participate in weekly operations meeting.
Participate on new product teams.
Work to implement lean activities as they pertain to operations and the supply chain.
7. Conduct Supply Chain Audits as necessary.
Place, track and expedite purchase orders as required.
Makes certain that purchasing documents are properly completed, and verifies that the terms and conditions of purchases are appropriate.
Assures that departmental records are maintained.
Places orders for product, follows up with expedite/de-expedite actions as required.
Establish regular communications with suppliers as necessary to maintain delivery schedules, quality, and cost.
Provide support for planning in the form on information and response to requests.
Provide support for receiving/inspection in the form of information and response to requests.
Process traveling requisitions, purchase requisitions or credit card orders as required.
Provide information as necessary regarding supplier deliveries or general business information pertaining to suppliers.
Qualifications: (Specific experience, skill, education required)
1. Business degree.
Experience in a manufacturing environment and knowledge inventory practices a must.
Mechanical, chemical or electrical background preferred.
CPM or APICS certification preferred.
Basic computer skills – Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Oracle 11.5.10, data entry.
Strong negotiation skills.
Technically oriented to comprehend and translate specification requirements.
Must be able to understand and utilize MRP II theory and applications.
Ability to communicate specific material requirements effectively to the supplier.
Knowledge of Kanban, Lean, Six Sigma, and best practices.
Knowledge of Root Cause and Corrective Action implementation and supplier management strongly preferred. 5-Why and 8D a plus.
