Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Student Financial Services Counselor II provides support to the department and performs duties in the areas of compliance, program administration, reconciliation, professional judgment and satisfactory academic progress and appeals; guides staff dedicated to providing financial aid assistance to students and their families and is responsible for managing multiple tasks in a time-sensitive work environment; provides appropriate and accurate information to all prospective and continuing students and/or parents regarding student accounts, educational costs, availability of financial aid resources, program eligibility, application process and strategies for meeting college costs; may require working at other campus financial aid offices, evening hours, and/or flex schedule.
Three (3) to Five (5) years of direct experience in a financial aid office at a college or university using a computerized student information system is required. File processing, budget and verification determination to ensure files are in compliance with federal, state and institutional guidelines is required. Progressively responsible supervisory experience is required.
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
Proficiency using Financial Aid software, specifically SCT Banner system is required. Thorough knowledge of Title IV and state programs with specialization in one or more programs. Ability to maintain federal and institutional policies and procedures. Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills and excellent customer service skills Ability to train and lead staff effectively and work with minimal supervision.
Position requires local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Job requires standing and sitting for long periods of time. Job takes place in normal environmental conditions.
A Criminal History Check is Required.
Position may require non-standard hours (nights and weekends). May require working at other campus financial aid offices, evening hours, and/or flex schedule.
($33,621 - $42,027) commensurate with education and experience with excellent benefits.
