Global Pediatric Alliance (GPA) seeks to promote grassroots empowerment and improve child and maternal health by providing educational, technical, and financial support for community-based health projects in Latin America. We are a small but growing organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area with active programs currently in Southern Mexico and in Guatemala. Since our founding in 2002, we have offered training in Western medical techniques for lay midwives and health promoters. We also run a Small Grants program to provide funding for community-driven health and sanitation projects.

About the Position:

We are looking for an Administrator with a genuine passion for our work. The Administrator will be responsible for administrative and financial management, as well as support for program implementation, communications, and fundraising. The Administrator will work independently from a home office and maintain regular contact with field program staff, the Executive Director (currently located in San Francisco), and Advisory Board members. This is a half-time (50%) position with the potential to expand in hours and scope. Occasional travel to project sites in Latin America will be required.

Duties:

Program Support
  • Provide administrative and programmatic support to field staff
  • Review reports from field staff
  • Provide program updates to Executive Director and to Advisory Board
  • Periodically travel to program sites and report back to the Executive Director and Advisory Board
Financial and Budget Management
  • Monitor expenditures, process related expense and disbursement forms, and provide budget-to-actual analysis
  • Prepare annual organizational budget for approval by Advisory Board
Volunteer Recruitment and Management
  • Recruit, orient, and supervise volunteers/interns working on website, translation, program support, and other projects
Communications
  • Produce a regular e-newsletter providing program content to donors and others
  • Refresh website content, regularly providing news and program updates
  • Develop and implement a communications strategy involving the use of various forms of social media
  • Cultivate strategic alliances and partnerships to advance organizational mission
Fundraising and Outreach
  • With input from the Advisory Board, identify and pursue potential fundraising opportunities (e.g., grant proposals, individual donors, events, etc.)
  • Represent GPA at conferences, gatherings, and events as needed
General
  • Support on-going development of Advisory Board
  • Provide administrative and other support for Advisory Board meetings
  • Perform other administrative tasks as necessary
Minimum qualifications:
  • Spoken and written fluency in English and Spanish
  • Master's degree in public health, policy, administration, social sciences, research or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of general program management or development experience
  • At least 3-5 years experience fundraising, including preparing successful grant proposals and cultivating donor relationships
  • Expertise and proven track record in at least 2 of the following areas: program development, evaluation, communications / marketing, strategic planning, financial management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Self-directed, ability to work independently, and willingness to work from home
  • Aware of and sensitive to cultural, social, political, and economic issues facing impoverished, indigenous populations, particularly in Mexico/Guatemala
  • Supervisory and team-building experience
  • Advanced level competency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Understanding of key concepts in maternal and child health, reproductive health, and infectious disease control in developing countries
  • Experience in "scaling up" a non-profit organization
  • Skills in developing and implementing a social media strategy
  • Experience developing and working with non-profit advisory boards
  • Experience networking and building coalitions with other NGOs, funders, and key stakeholders in international health
  • Proficiency in WordPress
