Assistant Dean Graduate Programs

The Assistant Dean, Graduate Programs is appointed by the Dean to provide leadership and manage the day-to-day activities of the graduate programs. The ADGP works collaboratively with the Administrative Support Team in implementing the graduate programs. This is a tenure earning position.

Responsibilities:
A.Administration

1.Provides leadership across graduate programs in refining, implementing, and evaluating curricula.

2.Participates in recruitment and orientation of new faculty to the graduate programs.

3.Coordinates with Graduate Program Records Office services that oversee management of graduate student data and records.

4.Provides guidance to graduate students and faculty as needed.

5.Serves as the first level for solving graduate faculty and student issues and concerns.

6.Collaborates with Senior Associate Dean in developing teaching assignments for faculty in the graduate programs.

7.Conducts the evaluation of graduate faculty.

8.Assures adherence of faculty and staff to FERPA guidelines for graduate student records.

9.Oversees graduate student progression and retention in the programs.

10.Collaborates with external institutions and the Graduate School to adapt policies and procedures to accommodate distance-based students.

11.Collaborates with faculty and administration from colleges that provide dual or joint graduate degree programs.

12.Oversees submission of traineeship application, and reporting, selection and maintenance of trainees.

13.Oversees graduate assistant and fellow selection and related activities.

14.Identifies, applies for, and manages externally funded grants for the graduate programs.

15.Assists graduate students in identifying potential job markets.

16.Supervises the selection and evaluation of clinical sites, facilitators and advisors.

17.Assures faculty and student compliance with clinical agency contract requirements.

18.Communicates with students, faculty and Senior Associate Dean in a timely way regarding projected student enrollment and faculty resource needs each semester.

19.Provides leadership to faculty for developing graduate components of the CCNE self-study and conducting the on-site evaluation.

20.Updates information for revisions in the CCN portion of the Graduate School catalog and CCN Faculty Handbook.

21.Revises Graduate Student Handbook annually in collaboration with graduate faculty.

22.Submits, at least annually, needed revisions in graduate portion of the CCN website and verifies that changes are made.

23.Keeps the Senior Associate Dean informed in a timely way about issues, concerns, and activities in the graduate programs.

24.Assures graduate programs’ compliance with CCN , Graduate School and other appropriate policies.

25.Collaborates with members of the Administrative Support Team to plan, implement and evaluate strategies for the successful operation of the college.

26.Oversees the graduate student admission process.

27.Updates course information and graduate unit profile on UA website at

least annually.

B.Teaching

Teaches at the graduate level.

C.Research/Scholarship

Participates in research/scholarship activities.

D.Service

Serves as a resource person for faculty and students.

Qualifications:
1.Master’s degree in nursing and doctorate in nursing or a related field.

2.Current licensure as a registered nurse in Alabama.

3.Successful teaching experience at the graduate level.

4.Ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals and groups.
