SW Engineer Workloads
This position is in the software team participating in development of a prototype core for the HPC/Exascale space as part of a research contract with an outside customer. The team is responsible for developing the runtime environment and toolchain that will enable the evaluation of representative workloads on the core as design alternatives are considered and implemented by the microarchitecture team. This research program will take on the challenges of increasing strong scaling, dramatically reduce power while increasing resiliency and enabling high-end HPC applications to reach exascale.
The candidate will be a member of a small, fast-paced, multi-disciplinary software team working closely with processor core architects. The qualified candidate will have knowledge of with High Performance Scientific Computing in general, and parallel computing in particular, especially MPI and OpenMP. Knowledge of numerical methods for scientific computing, especially for grid-based problems, desired. Programming experience in C/C++ necessary, Fortran desired. Good working knowledge of Linux. Good grasp of performance issues of large-scale HPC codes: synchronization, communication, load balance, memory access patterns. This is a hands-on software engineering position requiring the ability to work as a part of a functional team in a rapidly evolving technical environment.
B.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or other physical sciences, Mechanical Engineering or other engineering, with at least 2 years of directly relevant experience. MS/PhD is preferred.
Candidate must have 1+years of work or educational experience with the following:
Some experience developing and tuning C/C++ scientific HPC applications
Some experience developing and tuning MPI and/or OpenMP applications
Building, debugging, and tuning programs on a Linux platform
Some experience analyzing and tuning HPC codes
Some knowledge of numerical methods in scientific computing
Some experience developing and tuning Fortran scientific HPC applications
Some knowledge of HPC system architecture
Experience with algorithm analysis desirable
Experience with computational fluid dynamics, chemistry, or applied mathematics desirable
