POSITION: Social Media Intern, PBS Digital Content (SUMMER)
DEPARTMENT: PBS Digital
SALARY: $12.00/hour (undergrads and recents grads) and $15.00/hour (graduate students)
TIME COMMITTMENT : 30-40 hours/week, June 1 – August 15, 2013 (flexible)
Support the PBS Digital Content Distribution team's social media efforts
Support the team in the research, drafting and proofing of written content for topical social media platforms
Work with the PBS Marketing & Communications group to coordinate PBS Digital priorities for PBS corporate social media platforms
Work with PBS Digital teams to pitch content and special features to news sites, aggregators, community networking sites, and blogs.
Investigate and suggest social applications and practices to enhance and build awareness for PBS Digital projects.
Coordinate posting calendar and schedule across multiple accounts.
Assist in collecting analytics and reporting on social media efforts.
Other duties as assigned.
High fluency in the Social Web is mandatory;
Experience with updating social media accounts for a company, brand, or organization is preferred.
Experience using Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Youtube and Pinterest is strongly preferred.
Personal participation and interest in online communities/user-generated content sites is a requirement (facebook, youtube, flickr, etc);
Interest in and comfort with online video.
No preference. Demonstrated communication skills preferred.

Creative, entrepreneurial personality who can brainstorm new ways of reaching online audiences with PBS content and services;
Strong communication skills including impeccable writing and spelling;

Interest in PBS programming is preferred
SKILLS THE INTERN MIGHT GAIN:
Broad awareness of the public broadcasting system including exposure to television and Web industry professionals and key contributors, issues and programs;
An understanding of how the digital landscape is affecting the wider media industry;
An understanding of the full content publishing process, from concept to publishing to promotion to reporting.
Exposure to editorial decision-making in a high-quality, new media environment;
An understanding of digital marketing and promotion;
Working knowledge of search engine optimization;
Understanding of the challenges in the management of digital assets.
