River/King Sports, a new online publication that is currently in its first year of providing daily coverage of high school and youth sports in the Riverdale and Kingsbridge areas of the Bronx, is looking for freelancers/independent contractors that are interested in helping out with our new website business.
At this time, we are specifically looking for people to manage the selling of advertising space and help with the marketing of the website. Potential advertisers/marketers should be effective communicators who are willing to learn more about our product and confident enough to go out and speak with business owners and other people in the local area about it.
While it is not required, obviously it would be a great benefit to have some knowledge and interest in sports. Additionally, experience and ability in sports photography and/or sports writing is a major plus. However, just to clarify, we are NOT looking specifically for photographers or writers, but rather someone to fill the advertising/marketing position that could also occasionally serve as a sports photographer or writer.
The advertising portion of this job -- which will be a large majority of the responsibilities -- is strictly commission based, which means the freelancer will get paid a very fair percentage of any ads that they sell. There will be some extra compensation for time spent on marketing, photography or writing assignments.
In most cases, you will be free to choose your own approach to selling advertising, with flexible hours and working as much or as little as you choose, but freelancers should be willing and able to devote up to 5-10 hours per week on this project.
Please feel free to check out the site at www.riverkingsports.com .
- Well spoken; comfortable approaching and talking to business owners, spectators at sports events, etc.; able to confidently provide information about our publication and convincingly explain to someone how it can benefit them - Friendly personality, but also persistent and persuasive, without coming off as too pushy or obnoxious - Will not give up or become discouraged if you do not get immediate results selling ads - Live/go to school in or near Riverdale/Kingsbridge, or at least be familiar with the area
PLEASE NOTE: This position is NOT a full-time or part-time job. It is specifically geared towards college students, recent graduates and others that want the opportunity to possibly make some extra cash or get experience that can be used on resumes and lead to references if needed.
- Major/college degree/previous experience in advertising/marketing, public speaking, public relations or communications - Ability to cover and write about sports, and/or have the equipment and experience to shoot photos of live sports events
We would like to get started as soon as possible and are not looking to waste anybody’s time, so please do not waste ours. Only those with serious interest should apply, by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your resume and/or just a short description of why you are a good fit for this position. Please also include the best phone number to reach you at as well as any other relevant information (based on the above qualifications) you would like to provide us with.
