Position Summary:
Assists cancer patients on their journey through cancer care. Provides support, education and coordination of care for the patient and their family. Guides patients through the complexities of the health care system. Acts as an advocate for the patient and family.

The nurse navigator is an experienced oncology nurse who integrates a working knowledge of cancers, pathophysiology of cancer and other diseases, coping actions to assist patients through the treatment process and into the survivorship phase. Provides consultation, explicit instructions, before, during and after treatment, especially related to fatigue and other side effects of treatment.

Coordinates patient care with other support staff and providers.



Graduate of School of Nursing.

Three or more years of experience as an RN in a Health Care setting

with two or more years experience in Oncology Nursing - REQUIRED


Computer Skills: Word and Excel.

License / Certification:
Current Kentucky RN license required. Current BLS required.

BSN or related health care field; OCN preferred

Must have the ability to travel between locations within the Lexington area.

Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and understand the Associate Handbook and all hospital policies.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
Work demands both written and verbal interactions with professional staff and the lay person

Work involves balancing and prioritizing numerous variables.

Considerable mental demands. Often faced with highly charged emotional situations.

Frequent interruptions and pressure to meet deadlines

Air controlled shared office space.

Must also be able to walk, stand extensively, bend, stoop, squat, visually discriminate close objects, hear and distinguish normal sounds.
