The physical therapist is responsible for utilizing their education and training to provide individualized physical therapy treatment for his/her patient. The physical therapist has knowledge of and utilizes appropriate age-related treatments and evaluations relating to the needs of his/her patient. The physical therapist in outpatient rehabilitation may treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnosis, including but not limited to orthopedic and neurological disorders.

The physical therapist functions within the scope and standards of physical therapy practice as outlined in the Minnesota and South Dakota Physical Therapy Practice Act and Administrative Rules. Sanford recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Physical Therapy as published by the American Physical Therapy Association.

The physical therapist may be asked to supervise physical therapist assistants, aides, and students as they provide patient care, treatment, or other services. The physical therapist will be interacting with individuals outside of the department including but not limited to: physicians, case managers, third party payers, public organizations, etc.

Therapy staff are expected to know and will be held accountable for following infection prevention and control policies.

When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students.

Required Skills

Must be a graduate of an accredited course in Physical Therapy.

Conforms to licensing standards of the state of Minnesota and South Dakota.
