Position Location: MATES, Ft. Stewart, GA

Type of Appointment: This is a full-time, Excepted Indefinite, dual-status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership.

Job Summary: This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The primary purpose of this position is to determine, identify, and select for issue, items described by users in terms of their intended usage; recommending possible substitutes and interchangeable items; determining work sequences, methods, procedures, and techniques for setting up and shifting storage locations; and determining when tools and equipment should be routed to appropriate shops for test, repair, or callibration.

Background Check: Selectee may, at the option of the agency, be required to submit to criminal, credit history, and general background checks which will be evaluated by the agency prior to a final offer of employment and access into the Georgia National Guard Federal Technician or Active Guard/Reserve program.

National Guard Membership: This position requires military membership. It is designated for Georgia Army National Guard Enlisted incumbent(s) only. In accordance with ARNG regulations, incumbent performs duties necessary to accomplish military Tool & Parts Attendant functions in support of programs essential to state Army National Guard daily operations, training and readiness missions.

As a member of a Georgia Army National Guard unit, you will be required to train with your unit, normally one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training each year. Georgia Army National Guard units and members are subject to immediate call to federal or state active duty to meet national or state emergencies.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a current U.S. Citizen.

Under 5 USC 2108 & 5 CFR 211, Veteran's Preference criteria does not apply.

Duties

The following list of duties is not conclusive but provides a brief snapshot of the duties that may be required of this position:

Identifies user's tools, parts, equipment, and requirements and requisitions stock as needed.

Prepares periodic inventory and determines the basis for over, short, or misplaced items by checking such references as out-for-repair, issue, and turn-in records maintained in the tools and parts room.

Ensures that tools and equipment are maintained in good condition by performing visual and operating checks, taking measurements with such devices as calipers, and receiving reports from users on the nature and extent of damage to tools and equipment.

Determines stock replenishment levels for centrally controlled supplies and other material within funding limitations.

Receives a wide variety of supplies and specialized items requiring special handling.

Searches for identifying or management data on items of supply.

Edits supply transactions, or provides customer service for urgent critical shortage items and other items requiring special handling when established procedures are not applicable.

May assist a Surface Maintenance Mechanic by performing less complex and more routine helper type duties.

Performs other duties assigned.

Qualifications and Evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
General Experience: Must have experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of trade and shop name of items; ability to apply identification skill (matching specific item name, models, and stock or part numbers with similar specific information at stock locations); ability to use simple handtools (pliers, screwdrivers, etc) and to follow oral and written instruction.

Specialized Experience: Must have 18 months of specialized e xperience or training in verifying stock by opening, counting and visually checking the contents of the containers. Experience in establishing stock location by considering such factors as use, size, shape and weight of items. Experience in completing stock records by showing the names, quantities and location of stock. Experience in identifying correct nomenclature and stock number of items in order to locate stock for issue. Experience in performing maintenance such as replacing wooden handles on handsaws, changing blades on power saws, and greasing or oiling power and hand tools.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be further evaluated by the Selecting Official based on the following KSAs considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

Knowledge of the range of items in stock to identify specific items requested by users from descriptions of their intended usage, and to suggest, in the absence of requested items, substitute an interchangeable item that might fit user's requirements.

Skill in determining when tools and equipment should be sent to test, repair, and calibration shops.

Skill in providing evaluations to stock disposal personnel to aid them in determining whether items should be salvaged, repaired, and returned to stock.

Skill in determining from records such errors as improper item issue and turn in credit, and the failure of records to show that items have been sent out for repair.

Skill in identifying, setting up special storage locations, and ensuring that project assigned items are separated from regulary stocked items when they arrive and during their storage.

Ability to provide information on the status of stock for determining and keeping adequate numbers and types of items on hand.

Knowledge of current automation support programs to input data, provide status of equipment, monitor job order status, monitor work priorities, requisition repair parts, track repair parts status, ETC.

Other Requirements: Candidate must have a valid State driver's license for the State in which they live or are principally employed.

National Guard Compatibility: Once an applicant is selected and prior to being placed in the technician position, the selectee must be assigned to any unit in the Georgia Army National Guard as an Enlisted member in CMF: 91, MOS: 92A/F/Y/Z . Rank inversion is strictly prohibited.

Wear of the Army uniform as prescribed by AR/NGB/GA NGR is required for incumbent of this position. Acceptance of this position constitutes concurrence with this requirement as a condition of employment.

Preplacement Medical Requirements: Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the government's expense, prior to beginning employment. Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.

Standard Form 78 (Certificate of Medical Examination) will be used to determine the fitness and eligibility for employment. Upon review of results, the Human Resources Officer will approve selection, require additional medical information or find selectee medically disqualified for employment and withdraw said offer.
